The Lifestyle Medicine certificate program is open to individuals who hold a master’s degree in a health-related discipline (e.g., nursing, social work, psychology, physical/occupational therapy) and want to gain additional knowledge and competency in providing lifestyle-focused interventions in the care of chronically ill patients. The program focuses on expanding the knowledge base of advanced practice nurses in the areas of health promotion and disease prevention. Lifestyle Medicine is an evidence-based, interdisciplinary approach that examines the biological, psychosocial, and environmental influences of a person’s chronic physical and mental illness across the lifespan. This approach emphasizes the importance of a whole food, plant-predominant diet, regular physical activity, restorative sleep, stress management, avoidance of risky substances, and positive social connection in the treatment and reversal of chronic disease.
