Pre-Professional Development

(female voice) This course on pre-professional development in family and child sciences helps to prepare students for their pre-professional experience in a community setting serving individuals and families. This course is designed to help you prepare for your practicum and to set initial individual goals for your experience. So what marketable skills are you going to take away from this course?

  1. You'll be able to articulate key principles of ethical behavior in working with individuals and families.
  2. Identify and evaluate agencies for placement.
  3. And create professional and personal goals and set tentative benchmarks for assessment of progress in your practicum experience.

This is a discussion-based course, therefore you'll be participating in group and individual chats, recording video presentations and posting to the discussion board. There will be short papers due throughout the semester, as well as several quizzes. Be prepared to devote at least three hours a week to this course. You're going to be working with exceptional faculty who also teach face-to-face courses at the Florida State University College of Human Sciences – these are instructors who are published and noted for their accomplishments in and out of the classroom. The best part for you is that it's online, you don't need to drastically change your schedule to learn from the industry's top professionals. At FSU, online does not mean on your own.
See you in class.
